How I Love Hats

I have a collection of hats. Vintage hats from op-shops, boutiques, etsy and new hats (I can never go past the millinery department in David Jones in the city without looking in at them especially at Melbourne Cup time) I never care where there from as long as they look good.
I have a very understanding boyfriend who never minds what crazy outfit I put on (and including the vintage style underwear as well) and will encourage me often to wear these pretty hats.
I have not bought a new hat since before Christmas and are beginning to get withdrawal symptoms from depriving myself of the temptation of etsy, until last night.
I have not bought anything yet (because of a tight financial situation) but that has not deterred me from adding 20 to my favorite list. These are the ones I love and would love even more if I had the money.

It is Hot Hot Hot

Today it reached 42C in Perth and will be tomorrow, which causes some problems in dress when the mercury rises, how do you keep your vintage style when it is sweltering outside?
Perth will generaly get weather over 30C from November to April so wearing vintage light sundresses will get you through most days but what happens when it gets close to 39C and the moment you go outside you sweat buckets which will ruin most delicate vintage fabrics. What do you wear?

My Favorite Bloggers

Diary of a Vintage Girl
I love Fleur de Guerre and her modeling work. She is always elegant in early 40's style. I admire anyone who can be that dedicated to a style as she is. I have no idea how she can look glamorous while swing dancing, something that I can never do.

Vixen Vintage
Solanah is a vintage devotee and a hat eccentric. As a collector of vintage hats myself it is always hard to stand out in a crowd in one without looking like your wearing a fancy dress outfit but she always has a finess. She also loves the real wearing of vintage clothing as the everyday woman would have worn it when they where made instead of the more common pin-up style (not that I don't like pin-up style or do pin-up style sometimes when the mood takes me). And above all what woman wouldn't want to work in a vintage store.

nothing says class like a pocket square

This Fantastic dapper gentleman is from streetetiquette.com and is bringing back dressing with finess to the masses and has nailed it. I love the flash of colour and patten in a gent's pocket from a fine pocket square.

New Year Ritual

At the beginning of every year I write a packing list in the back of my pocket diary for a 1 week holiday. I have done this new year ritual for the past 4 years because at short notice the worst thing is packing because I always forget important stuff, like a towel for a year 11/12 5 day co-ed biology camp, so this little check list has come in handy and as I travel more it has become stream line and lighter.

My list is:
1 pair of comfy ballet flats
1 pair of sandles or thongs
2 t shirts (1 plain colour and 1 patterned)
2 dresses
1 pair of jeans (depending on the weather)
1 pair of pants (depending on the weather)
1 pair of pajamas
1 pair of shorts (depending on the weather)
1 skirt
1 cardigan (2 if very cold)
1 coat (if very cold)
1 tank top or camisol
1 pair of walking shoes if having to walk allot and 2 pairs of socks (4 if cold)
7 pairs of knickers and 3 bras
bathers for swimming
1 long sleeve t shirt (depending on the weather)
1 necklace, 2 brooches and 1 bangle
1 headband and hair clips
1 pashmina and 1 silk scarf (1 thick scarf if cold)
2 pairs of pantyhose (4 if cold)
1 pair of sunglasses
1 travel towel
sunscreen and moisturizer with SPF
soap that can be used as a shampoo, conditioner, body wash, cleanser and emergency laundry liquid
toothbrush and toothpaste
1 lipstick, 1 lip gloss or balm, 1 mascara, 1 blusher, tinted moisturizer, eyeshadow pallet and 1 eye pencil

Even with this planning there are still problems. The top 2,

1.dresses
Trying to find dresses that work for every situation day and night but doesn't look too casual or too dressy. I always take my favorite wrap jersey dress that can be worn as a beach cover up, walking around town/country and worn backwards as an evening dress.

2.shoes
If they are high, too tight, give you blisters, will make your feet sweat and smell .... DO NOT TAKE THEM. Nice flats or a small wedge heel is always the best way to go and thongs are a must if any public change rooms are to be used (and it doesn't matter if you throw them away when they get icky)
